About Our Meals

How is California Chef different from other meal delivery programs?

California Chef delivers classic home cooked dishes you love and remember. Our chef uses locally-sourced fresh ingredients to create whole ingredient meals that are made from scratch. All meals are ready to eat.

Is there any additional cooking or preparation required to the meals?

All meals are delivered fully prepared by our highly trained chefs. While all meals are safe to eat without being heated, some meals are designed to be ready to eat, whereas others take just a few minutes in the oven or microwave. Heating instructions are provided for all meals that require heating.

Are the meals frozen?

No. All meals are delivered fresh. We prepare your meals on the day of delivery, so your meals are delivered as fresh as can be! They are never frozen.

What type of meal plans are offered?

We offer 2 meals plans. Signature meals are for individuals and come in 2 portion sizes, standard and large. We also offer an option in our Signature plan, specifically portioned for those who are 65 and over. Just choose the option for 65 and over during checkout.

We also offer our Family Style plan that can feed 2, 4 or 6 people. Family style meals are designed for freezing and reheating, as the portions are family-sized and perfect for leftovers.

What nutrition guidelines does California Chef follow?

Loaded with superfoods and antioxidants, each portion-controlled meal is nutritionally balanced with lean protein, fresh vegetables, and healthy carbs and fats. Nothing is ever fried, and our meals are always prepared with low sugar and low sodium.

What ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrates are in each meal?

Each meal on average is 30–40% protein, 30–40% carbohydrates, and 30% fats.

Can I see a sample menu?

Can I order dinner (or breakfast or lunch) only?

Minimum order for meal plans is 2 meals daily, you select the type of meals you want (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

What if I have a food allergy?

We offer up to 5 ingredient eliminations free of charge. Up to 2 additional ingredient omissions are allowed at $5 a day. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING WHETHER ANY FOOD ALLERGIES MAY OCCUR. Although we will provide ingredient lists when requested, California Chef is not responsible for any allergic or adverse reactions you might have to our food.

What if I have a medical condition?

If you are on medication or under a doctor’s care for a medical condition you must consult your doctor before beginning a new meal program. Meal plan are not meant to replace or supersede any doctor-prescribed diet program. California Chef’s plans do not replace a physician’s advice; if you are using our meal plans as part of a doctor-prescribed diet, you shall be ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance with such diet. Furthermore, if you have diabetes or other medical conditions of any kind, you shall be responsible for maintaining your diet to ensure compliance with the requirements of such conditions. Our meal recommendations shall not be deemed medical advice.


What areas of SoCal do you deliver to?

We deliver throughout Los Angeles County (excluding north of Agua Dulce), Orange County, Inland Empire, and North San Diego.

How do I find out if California Chef delivers in my area?

While creating your order, the first question we ask is to input your zip code to confirm we deliver in your area.

How often are my meals delivered?

We deliver Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday between 5pm & 11pm to your home. We text customers once the bag has been delivered to let you know your bag is at your door.

How will I receive my deliveries each day?

Your daily delivery of meals will arrive in an insulated cooler California Chef bag. It is your responsibility to provide us in advance of your start date, a code, a key or a FOB if one is required for property accessibility.

How much is delivery?

Delivery fees are based on your zip code and location. Depending on where you live within our delivery area of Southern California, daily delivery fees range in cost from $6.00 to $10.00. Please note that we only deliver in the Southern California area and are not nationwide.

What time will I get my delivery?

For new subscribers, first delivery will arrive within 72 hours or on a later date of your choosing. For ongoing subscribers: we deliver Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday between 5pm & 11pm. Saturday meals are included in the Thursday evening delivery.

What should I do with the cooler bags after my meals are delivered?

Please place your empty cooler bag with re-usable ice packs back in the designated delivery spot, the same spot you requested we leave your meals. Our driver will exchange your empty cooler bag with a full bag of new meals. Do not include meal containers in the cooler bag – please recycle the containers on your own. The driver will not pick up bags filled with used containers. If you miss one night of leaving your empty bag out for pick-up, don’t worry! Just place 2 empty bags the following night.

What do I do with the cooler bag & ice packs?

The previous delivery cooler bag and ice packs are picked up when we make your next delivery. Kindly leave them in the designated drop-off spot to avoid fees for unreturned packaging. There will be additional charge per unreturned cooler bag and ice pack. There may be a pickup charge if returned bags are excessive.

How fast will delivery begin?

Once you’ve completed the sign-up process, your service should start within 72 hours. We will contact you with the exact details of your start-up date and time shortly after you’ve signed up.

How do I change my plan or preferences?

About Your Service

How does my weekly recurring subscription work?

A weekly recurring subscription is the easiest, most convenient, most cost-effective option for eating clean, wholesome meals – no meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning. We’ll charge your card on a recurring weekly basis, and you’ll receive uninterrupted deliveries. You can skip weeks of your service if you’re traveling or simply want a break and you can cancel your subscription at any time.

How do coupon codes work?

In order to redeem any coupon code used when ordering from California Chef, you must subscribe for a 5-day minimum of delivery service. 5 days of service is the minimum order required to redeem any coupon code used.

When do I get charged for my recurring weekly service?

Your weekly subscription is renewed automatically every Wednesday night at 9pm. You will be charged on Friday around lunchtime for the upcoming week of delicious meals.

How do I make changes to my account?

All changes to weekly recurring service must be made before Thursday at 9pm PST. Please call customer service at (800) 995-2991 or email us at customercare@californiachef.com to inform us of any changes before Wednesday at 9pm PST. California Chef clients will be responsible for all charges relating to any order processed after the cutoff date/time.

How can I change my delivery address?

Please call customer service at (800) 995-2991 or email us at customercare@californiachef.com with your address so we can update your account.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation requests must be emailed to us at customercare@californiachef.com or call us at (800) 995-2991. Orders can be cancelled for a 100% refund up to 7 days prior to the start of your plan. For cancellations up to 4 days prior to the start of your plan, California Chef will refund 50% of the plan cost. Within 4 days of your plan start date, no refunds will be issued; however, you can have it sent to someone else.

What if I want to pause service?

If you need to pause your service, please due to vacation, etc, please call customer service at (800) 995-2991 or email us at customercare@californiachef.com to let us know what days you want to pause your service and the start back up date for reinstating your service. That way, we can ensure that your delivery will arrive on your first day back!

Will I be charged for the days I pause service?

You will not be charged for the days you pause service as long as we are alerted of the days you want to pause on Thursday by 9pm PST before your first paused day.

How do I order more than one plan at once?

Each meal plan is a weekly subscription. If you would like to order more than one meal plan, you will need to add a new service by calling us (800) 995-2991 or by emailing us at customercare@californiachef.com.

If I want to change plans, do I have to cancel?

Switching meal plans is easy and you can do it as often as you like. Please call customer service at (800) 995-2991 or email us at customercare@californiachef.com and we will switch your meal plan. All changes to accounts must be submitted by Thursday at 9pm in order to be updated for the following week.

Do I have to place an order every week?

No. Your weekly subscription is renewed every week automatically.

How do you sign up with a couple or another family member?

Each weekly subscription is one meal plan. If you are planning to subscribe with a partner, spouse or other family member; each person will need to subscribe to a meal plan with individual email addresses. You can use the same payment method for multiple subscriptions.
